In an interview with RPG Site, the developers at BioWare gave us further details about the role-playing game “Dragon Age: The Veilguard”, which will be released in autumn 2024. As the studio promised us, we can look forward to an “enormous skill tree” that offers plenty of room for customization.
Earlier this week, Electronic Arts and the developers of BioWare introduced us to the role-playing game “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” in detail. If you missed the gameplay reveal, you can watch this here look at.
Following the presentation, Game Director Corinne Busche spoke in an interview with RPG Site about the possibilities for character development. According to Busche, we can look forward to an “enormous skill tree” in “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” that offers plenty of room for individualization.
As Busche added, two well-known classics were the inspiration for the design of the progression mechanisms. They are “Final Fantasy 10” and “Final Fantasy 12”, which Busche says are among her absolute favorites.
BioWare follows in the footsteps of Final Fantasy
When asked about the similarities between the skill tree of the new “Dragon Age” adventure and the sphere board of “Final Fantasy 10”, Busche explained: “It was heavily influenced. Final Fantasy 10 is one of my all-time favorites. I can tell you that 12, especially the Zodiac Edition, is also one of my favorites.”
“The level of skill selection, passive skills, in our case, traits… I would say the level of customization is more analogous to that. The structure is more like the sphere board,” BioWare’s game director explained. “Final Fantasy 12 might be one of my three favorite games.”
“I was heavily influenced by it in terms of our progress. But if you want to draw a picture, the spherical board is more apt. It’s not an exact implementation. But it’s more similar.”
Details on the level cap and specializations
During the interview, Busche confirmed that the maximum character level in “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” will be 50. In addition, the class skill trees will allow three different specializations. “In addition to the specializations, it is divided into three sections,” she explained.
“For example, in Warrior, there is a section that is more focused on defense, one that is more focused on weapons, and one that is more focused on skills.”
Your companions also have unique skill trees, of course. Busche: “Their skill trees are organized around their individual abilities. So when you unlock their full range of skills, each one has a skill tree full of choices that allow you to achieve autonomous use, reduce cooldowns, or add additional effects to the ability.”
“Dragon Age: The Veilguard” will be released in fall 2024 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
